PROCESS GAS AND MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY GUIDE FOR COMPRESSORS

The information presented below is meant to serve only as a guide. It is intended to provide the user with a general idea for the types of materials which have typically been compatible with the AMSOIL compressor oils, and also those materials which should have minimum contact with these products. Changes in methods of manufacture, application, degree of exposure and severity of environment can sometimes cause unpredictable effects in a material's compatibility.

PC Series

The AMSOIL PC Series Oils are compatible with seals, paints, plastics and virtually all materials that would be used in compressor applications. They are satisfactory for use with all materials that are compatible with petroleum oils.

DC Series

The AMSOIL DC Series Oils are diester-based products. This product is the focus of the material compatibility chart. It has some compatibility issues that should be addressed when recommending this product for an application.

Other Compressor Oils

AMSOIL PC Series and DC Series Compressor Fluids are compatible with petroleum, diester-based and synthetic hydrocarbon (PAO) based compressor fluids. Glycol and silicone compressor fluids are incompatible with petroleum and other synthetic oils, therefore also incompatible with AMSOIL Compressor Oils. Because of the DC Series' good polarity, AMSOIL recommends using the DC Series as a flushing agent and as the replacement compressor oil when changing out glycol or silicone based compressor oil. To change from these types of fluid to AMSOIL, please refer to the Procedure for Flushing Compressors. It is recommended that a sample be taken after the system is in operation with the new fluid to ensure a complete change out.

Seals, Paints, Plastics and Polycarbonate Bowls

AMSOIL DC Series Compressor Oils tend to make polycarbonate bowls brittle and subject to fracture and rupture. When using the DC Series in conjunction with polycarbonate bowls, cover the bowls with metal bowl guards or replace them with metal bowls.

DEFINITIONS

Compatible: hose materials which are generally unaffected by diester-based lubricants.

Marginal: Those materials for which the effect on them is dependent on their use, and composition, which can vary. Evaluation of the specific material under simulated and/or actual operating conditions is suggested prior to use.

Not Recommended: Materials which have been found to be adversely affected under most circumstances and should not be considered for use where excessive contact with the DC Series is involved.

The compatibility reference guide is directed toward the use of the DC Series Oils.

Testimonials

Peter Virgona of Merrick, NY is a self-proclaimed oil enthusiast.

“I do a great deal of reading and research, always looking for the best oil,” Virgona said. “The more I read the more I realized AMSOIL was the best ‘true’ synthetic I could buy. After using Mobil 1 since 1986, I made the switch to AMSOIL.”

Virgona drives a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with nearly 98,000 miles on the engine. He switched from Mobil 1 to AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil.

“The difference was immediate and signifi - cant,” Virgona said. “The idle became much smoother. There are times I can’t tell if the car is running. It also became much more responsive to the gas pedal, so much more responsive my wife asked me what I did to the car.”

He has owned the car for almost nine years. “Not surprisingly, the gas mileage improved signifi cantly,” he said. “This car always averaged 15 mpg going back and forth from work. It now averages 16.5 mpg. That’s a 10 percent increase. I truly didn’t expect such a big change.”

He waited to report his fi ndings until after he had driven the car at least 5,000 miles “to confi rm that the numbers are average and not just a fl uke.”

Virgona also installed AMSOIL 5W-30 in his sister-in-law’s 1996 Dodge Caravan with a 3.0 litre V6 engine. She had always used conventional motor oil with regular oil changes every 3,000 miles, Virgona said.

“Nonetheless, she had a signifi cant amount of sludge that was obvious under the oil cap,” he said. “She also experienced a very loud lifter noise that would come and go with the engine either hot or cold. Presumably the sludge was affecting the oil circulation to the lifters.”

Oil consumption in the van was increasing, using about one quart every 1,500 to 2,000 miles.

“I switched her to AMSOIL and put in a new fi lter,” Virgona said. “Within 1,000 miles the lifter noise was all but gone. By 3,000 miles, virtually all the sludge was gone. I drained and refi lled the oil a second time with AMSOIL 5W-30. The oil consumption is now down to one quart every 3,000 miles, with no more lifter noise. And, except for a little yellow varnish, all the sludge is gone.

“I am very happy with AMSOIL and plan to use it from now on. I recommend it to anyone who wants a great synthetic oil.”

Virgona just had a case shipped to his father-in-law in Florida because he believes in AMSOIL products, he said, and wants others to experience their benefi ts. In fact, he’s considering becoming a Dealer. The more I read the more I realized AMSOIL was the best ‘true’ synthetic I could buy.

Better Fuel Mileage

Better Fuel Economy Fuel economy is becoming more important with each passing year. Gas and diesel prices keep rising, putting a major strain on businesses that rely on vehicles and heavy equipment in their daily operations. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants improve fuel economy by allowing moving parts to move more freely, using less energy and creating less friction than when conventional lubricants are used. The use of AMSOIL synthetic motor oil, gear lubes and transmission fluids can have a profound impact on fuel economy. Industry tests demonstrate an average conservative decrease in fuel consumption by two to five percent by switching to synthetic lubricants. Many AMSOIL customers report even larger gains in fuel economy.
